SHEMA: Society for History, Education, Memory, and Action

Launch funding for SHEMA: Sociedade pela História, Educação, e Memória Ativa, a new nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Holocaust history into the fabric of Portuguese education and public discourse. Hosted by the Center for English Studies at the University of Lisbon, SHEMA equips educators and students with historical knowledge and critical thinking through university courses, teacher training programs, and community engagement—fostering a culture of remembrance that informs contemporary commitments to human rights, counters antisemitism and racism, and cultivates active citizenship among Portuguese educators and young people.
