Supporting Holocaust education in Portugal
The KunstWorks Fund is pleased to announce its launch funding for SHEMA: Associação pela História, Educação, e Memória Ativa (Society for History, Education, Memory, and Action), a new nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Holocaust history into the fabric of Portuguese education and public discourse. Affiliated with the Center for English Studies at the University of Lisbon, SHEMA equips educators and students with historical knowledge and critical thinking through university courses, teacher training programs, and community engagement—fostering a culture of remembrance that informs contemporary commitments to human rights, counters antisemitism and racism, and cultivates active citizenship among Portuguese educators and young people.
